Steve Jobs and Pixar

Pixar grew in the hands of Steve Jobs. He bought the company for 5 million US Dollars and put an additional investment of 5 Million US dollars into the company. The name Pixar was given to the company by Steve Jobs. It meant "creating Pixels". At the beginning Pixar started selling computers to Government agencies and Disney studios. But they had to face several setbacks after the economic crisis in the year 1982. But Steve held his nerve and decided not to sell the company. Then after months of hard work, Pixar got back on track. They started animating movies, like the "Return of Jedi". They made deals with Disney to produce five animation films.

Pixar

Pixar animation studios are the leaders in animation production today. They have their headquarters in California. I simply love Pixar. They have produced some marvelous movies like Finding nemo, Wall-e(My all time favorite), Lion King. They have won several awards including 21 Oscars. The list of awards simply keeps on growing year after year. They were established during the 1970s. They were later bought by Steve Jobs. The company is currently held by the Walt Disney group. The history of pixar began with Lucas Films. Pixar worked together with Lucas films on special effects in several Hollywood movies. After their brilliant inventions in the movie Star Trek, Pixar was bought by Steve Jobs.

2D and 3D animation

Before ten years computer graphics was used to create 2D animation. Let me explain what a 2D animation is first.

All the objects in a 2D project are two dimensional. The best example for 2D animation is the various cartoons that we see in cartoon network. The "Tom & Jerry" show was my favorite when I was a child. It is a 2D animation project. Normal human eyes can distinguish a 2D animation from a 3D animation

The 3D animation projects are used in movies today. Let us take the movie i-Robot for example. The movie contains scenes involving thousands of robots. All these robots are the best example of 3D animation.

Story of computer graphics

The word "Computer graphics" was first used by William Fetter. He was working as a graphic designer for Boeing Aircraft Co. He was the first ever to model a human body during the 1960s. He was called as "Boeing Man" by his co-workers. He won several awards for his modeling of a human body. He is truly "The father of computer graphics".  Computer graphics technology has developed several folds after his discovery. The "SAGE project" led to the discovery of Light pen (input device). The first output device used was the Cathode ray tube. Light pen was a very efficient input device. It needed just two volts of current. The discovery of light pen and cathode ray tube marked the beginning of a new era in computer graphics.

Raster Scan displays

They are the most common display devices used today. They are used in graphics monitor and it uses the TV based technology. The electron beam sweeps the screen one row at a time .The screen glows depending upon several factors. The Best thing about this raster scan displays is that they are easy to develop and install. This device was invented by a group of scientists performing scientific research about electrons. This accidental invention has made the whole world turn upside down. Also those scientists were nominated for several awards for their amazing discovery. The screen can display three types of colors(Red, Blue, Green) . All other colors are produced as a combination from these colors

Display devices

There are several display devices that can be used in computer graphics. Let me explain about the few basic display devices that are used frequently in computer graphics. I'm going to explain about cathode ray tubes first.. The key components of a cathode ray tube are

  • Connector pins
  • electron gun
  • Focusing system
  • base
  • Magnetic deflection coils
  • phosphor coated coils
  • electron beam
Electron is like a shooter, it keeps on emitting high speed electrons at a constant rate. Phosphor is used for coating purposes in the cathode ray tube. This layer glows as the electron beam strikes on it.

Interactive graphics

Communicating with the computer has been made easy with the help of interactive graphics. This is because the human brain can perceive pictures rapidly when compared to texts. This is proved by a latest research by Professor. Malcom. Motion dynamics has developed into the most important feature in computer graphics. This is because this allows the objects to be moved with respect to an observer. Well, the observer can also remain stationary and the object can be moved around the observer. The best example for this is zooming in and out. Virtual worlds can be created only with the help of interactive graphics. The user can create his own world.
